Welcome back! As we approach the start of the 2024-2025 school year, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. I would like to take this opportunity to share some important information with you. The first day of school for students will be Thursday, August 29th. We eagerly await the return of our students and are thrilled to welcome new families into our school community.

Our doors will open at 7:15 a.m. Students arriving by bus or through parent drop-off will enter the school and report to the gym/cafeteria for breakfast. Please note that dismissal times will remain unchanged: Lee Winn Elementary School (LWE) will dismiss at 2:10 p.m., and Mt. Jefferson Junior High School (MJJH) will dismiss at 2:20 p.m. On Fridays, dismissal will be earlier, at 12:30 p.m. for LWE and 12:40 p.m. for MJJH.

To facilitate a smooth transition back to school for both parents and students, we invite you to our Open House on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. This event will include two sessions: the first for LWE from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by MJJH from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to meet our dedicated teachers, tour the classrooms, and learn about our curriculum and expectations. We encourage you to ask questions and share feedback that can help enhance your child’s educational experience. Your involvement is crucial, and we look forward to collaborating with you throughout the year.

Throughout the school year, we will communicate with families using various platforms. Please follow us on Facebook and visit our district website (MSAD.org) for updates. We kindly ask that you ensure your contact information is up to date by completing the back-to-school documentation or contacting our schools. For those who do not use Facebook, our monthly newsletters will provide important updates and opportunities available to our school community. We have many positive stories to share about our schools and students, and we will frequently post on Facebook to keep our community informed and celebrate our achievements.

This summer, I dedicated time to reviewing district policies and updating the parent and student handbook. These essential documents detail the proactive steps we are committed to implementing to ensure the safety of all students and staff, as well as outlining the expectations for student conduct during school hours. It is our priority to maintain a secure and conducive learning environment for everyone. The Student Handbook will remain digitally on the school website. We kindly request that you review our school policies and procedures with your child before the school year begins. If you prefer a printed copy, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and flexibility as we work together to provide an exceptional education for our students. We anticipate a busy year ahead, filled with learning, relationship building, and enjoyable experiences. Please feel free to reach out via phone or email with any questions regarding the upcoming school year. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Best regards,

Fredy Lazo, M.Ed.
